GWAR at Northern Lights, Clifton Park, NY
While very loud, it certainly was entertaining in a dark sense. The crowd was very into the sound and fury of GWAR. The group has a really good heavy metal sound, with unique costumes and huge puppets. When the stage blood flies over the crowd (old togs recommended if you want to (and can get near to) be near the stage area). The crowd was better behaved than you would expect at this type of concert -- security was evident everywhere. The venue could have used a few more bar tenders though. $20 for a T-shirt was very reasonable. The official website does not do full justice to the experience. The lighting effects were much better in person, and the chopping up of the puppets with a sword or chain saw are really quite comical in a black comedy sort of way. Unique is the word for the overall effect.
